The Dortort Center for Creativity in the Arts at UCLA Hillel presents its Fall art opening featuring four solo shows by Merissa Mann, L. Aviva Diamond, Robin Comanor. There was a public reception and art party on Thursday October 21, 2021…but the show runs until December 27, 2021 – don’t miss it!
“Ancient Wisdom” includes six works by Karen Amy Finkel Fishof, an artist working at the intersection of women and religion, specifically Orthodox Judaism. Karen adds an important voice in the space of contemporary photography. Aside from the narrative aspect, her work practice involves alternative process photography, creating large scale, black and white pieces. All works are one-of-a kind, photograms mounted on archival board with wooden support frame and hanging structure.
In “Where there is Smoke,” artist Merissa Mann fuses her background in costume design with her love of art history to create alluring paintings, photographs, and soft sculptures. “Birds” showcases the work of Aviva Diamond who began taking photos as a teenager, inspired by the works of Minor White and Paul Klee. Robin Comanor’s “My People,” is an inclusive collection of paintings of persons affiliated with Judaism.
