UCLA’s Center for the Art of Performance (CAP UCLA) announces Movement Art Is (MAI), co-founded by street-dance icons Jon Boogz and Lil Buck, in their first evening-length dance performance Love Heals All Wounds at Royce Hall on Thursday, May 23, 2019.

MAI’s Love Heals All Wounds uses movement and spoken word to address the social issues we face as a global community; including mass incarceration, immigration, and the destruction of the environment.

Both widely known as international dance phenomena, Jon Boogz excels in popping while Lil Buck is an expert in Memphis jookin’. Each bringing their own signature style, the two first performed together as street dancers on the 3rd street Promenade in Santa Monica. Sharing a concern for larger social issues, they co-founded Movement Art Is with a collaborative goal of using the movement artistry to inspire and change the world while elevating and resetting the spectrum of what we consider “dance.”

Both individual and joint projects have lead Boogz and Buck to exploding careers and collaborations with Madonna (Buck) and Naomi Campbell (Boogz), Apple AirPods campaign (Buck), an Adidas project in collaboration with Pharrell (Boogz), then as a duo, a VR dance film Together directed by Terrence Malick, and performance at TED Conference in Vancouver.
