Well it is mid May 2025 the LA Arts just keep on coming. Printed Matter throws it LAABF 2025 opening party tonight (Thursday), and runs through the weekend, plus we have some nice theatre picks. Friday’s events features more from Printed Matter, with a virtual event from LAMAG. Additional art openings take place at Arcane Space, Deitch, and also David Kordansky Gallery.

Printed Matter Inc. kicks off its book fair – LAABF 2025 with an opening art party, This year the event will be held at a new location. Westwood

The Fowler recently debuted a new exhibition titled Construction, Occupation on May 4, 2025. Moreover, the group show includes the work of 24 artists and collectives that engage art’s potential to shape the city through the power of community. Drawing on myriad visual languages and also poetics grounded in collective action, the exhibition investigates a radical urban vocabulary that blurs art and activism to address questions of infrastructure and vulnerability, circulation and segregation, and the body in public space. DowntownThe Ahmanson Theatre presents Life of Pi a winner of three Tony Awards® as well as the Olivier Award for Best Play. It is a stirring fantasy style tale of wonder and adventure. Lolita Chakrabarti has an adapted dazzling stage adaptation of Yann Martel’s best-selling novel (over 15 million copies sold). The show opened to critical acclaim on Broadway and the West End. It is attracting audiences from around the world.

The plot features a shipwrecked sixteen-year-old boy named Pi. He survives on a lifeboat with four other companions—a hyena, a zebra, an orangutan, and a 450-pound Royal Bengal tiger. LAMAG (Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery) presents Virtual Fridays: Exploring Artworks and Themes from Step & Repeat. Today’s virtual event is titled Psychedelic Aesthetics and Op Art. The series of virtual programs featuring artworks from Step & Repeat curated by Nancy Meyer and John Weston. Each week a new theme highlighting three artworks will be shown. David Kordansky Gallery presents Why Are You Sitting In The Dark, an exhibition of paintings, drawings, and a sculpture by Jason Fox. The artist makes paintings that are, first and foremost, about painting but inevitably end up being about everything else. The style he has developed over four decades is responsive to many levels of cultural production, indulging in disparate interests such as modernism, minimalism, comic books, and popular music.
