On View at Marciano Art Foundation
Quaternion opened on December 17, 2024, and features hand-carved industrial foam furniture reflecting Marciano Art Foundation’s 1961 building’s material and ornamental histories. Three seating ensembles in distinct colors create connections between visitors and library shelves.
Moreover, Transmissions: Selections from the Marciano Art Collection will remain on exhibit on the Foundation’s third floor, spotlighting fifty-six international artists from the collection alongside a selected loans.
Anchored by The Great Silence by Jennifer Allora and Guillermo Calzadilla, the exhibition deals with humanity’s constant search for answers outside of our own planet. The Great Silence features an endangered parrot living next to the world’s largest radio telescope asks humanity why it is searching for extraterrestrial intelligence when there are other intelligent species right here on Earth.
Mark Leckey’s Inflatable Felix, a towering lobby sculpture, now resides in the third-floor Lodge Gallery. The artwork reflects the transmission of symbols and icons through time and space. Artists in Transmissions ask why we search the cosmos for life while ignoring art’s profound messages on Earth.
