In Palos Verdes…Curators of 9 x 9: Contemporary Quilts & Containers Carrie Burckle and Jo Lauria will give a Curators’ Tour at the Palos Verdes Art Center. In Hancock Park…the Fahey/Klein Gallery hosts an art talk in conjunction with its current exhibition Reverie featuring photographs by Arthur Elgort. This exhibition captures his spontaneous energy of the artist throughout his long career. His expertly crafted photographs feel as natural as personal snapshots. Attendees will enjoy a special performance series featuring three musician-researchers, Micah Huang in duo with Kenny Zhao, Alex Chechile, and Barbara Nerness, who employ biofeedback as a tool for creating music. Biofeedback is a process that electronically monitors rhythms of the body: brainwaves, heart rate, and electrodermal activity. Following a presentation of the history of biofeedback music, these performances will demonstrate the process of using biofeedback technology as a tool in experimental music composition. Melrose Hill Wilding Cran’s Gallery
Wilding Cran Gallery has moved to Melrose Hill. Its inaugural show is titled The Messengers. an exhibition of new paintings by Los Angeles-based artists Francesca Gabbiani and Eddie Ruscha.
Through their collaborative exchange, Gabbiani and Ruscha channel shared visions of ecological hope and healing to reflect upon the restorative cycles of the natural world. The vibrant series of works on paper combine painting and also collage with soft, fluid forms and hard edges to embrace interconnection as a transcendent mode of survival. While Ruscha’s airbrush techniques produce smooth, ethereal forms, Gabbiani’s hand-painted paper collages add depth and texture, pulling the viewer into a pulsing landscape of fusion and duality.
