Following two colorful, successful editions that brought several thousand art-lovers to the district in 2017 and 2018, BoldPas: A Day of Art & Play in Old Pasadena returns on Saturday, June 8, from 12:00 to 8:00pm. The event, staged in Old Pasadena’s historic 19th-century alleys, is free to the public and offers a one-day-only opportunity to encounter artistic, ephemeral interventions in unique urban spaces.
BoldPas showcases seventeen installations created by selected artists from the greater LA area. Artists include: Kat Bing, Chelsea Boxwell, Garth Britzman, Ash Cano, Capt. James, Alycia Cornelius & Laura Kapp, Steven Daily, Patricia Diefenderfer, Olga Lah, Po Yan Leung, Heidi Moreno & Priscilla Moreno, Camille Ora-Nicole & Ashley Mangus, Nathaniel Osollo, Gary Pappani & Santos Cortes, Hilda Rios, and Marshall Fundamental High School’s 9thGrade Art Students.
Here is some info on Chelsea Boxwell‘s installation: “Pink is the new kinda lingo.” Pink is a beautiful, majestic, bright, and happy color. “Pink is the new kinda lingo” – a massive painting consisting of brightly painted canvases, glittering fabrics, and interactive streamers – is suspended high above the alley to illuminate the magic of this color. It takes its title from lyrics of the song “Pink” by Aerosmith.
Many of the Old Pasadena businesses have scheduled free instructor-led art activities during BoldPas. ¡Descubra! at Armory Center for the Arts 1:00-5:00pm: ¡Descubra! – A program created by The Smithsonian Latino Center to inspire the next generation of science, history, and cultural enthusiasts. sp[a]ce gallery at Ayzenberg is participating as well. Curated by Mark Todd and Dov Kelemer / DKE Toys, the exhibition offers a diverse mix of mediums, bringing together traditional painting and drawing, interactive and kinetic art, and VR.
