Juneteenth is HERE, and Los Angeles hosts several celebrations across the weekend – on Saturday, June 18, and Sunday, June 19, 2022. Juneteenth is known as America’s second Independence Day…so get out there and pay tribute to the holiday. 

LaVerne Ross, the City of Santa Monica, and the Juneteenth Celebration Committee also hosts a very special event featuring music, unique food, craft vendors, and local resources to celebrate the 30th annual Juneteenth.

To mark the event’s third decade, the main stage will feature a stellar lineup of musicians emceed by KJLH’s Aaron “Bobo” Arnelle and DJ Shell.

Chazz Ross will open the celebration with his traditional drum call. Followed by performances by: three-time Grammy award winner jazz singer-songwriter Dee Dee Bridgewater; Contemporary jazz saxophonist Mike Phillips; American all-female pop/R&B band KLYMAXX composed of sole founder Bernadette Cooper and members Lorena Porter Shelby, Cheryl Cooley, Robbin Grider, Lynn Malsby, and Joyce “Fenderella” Irby: Local favorite Block Party Band. The day will close with dance by Teresa Smith.

Then the following day, Sunday June 19, 2022, Open Arms Food Pantry and Resource Center presents a Juneteenth x Los Angeles Black History Month Festival Event on June 19 2022. Get the party started at 10:00am in celebration of African American heritage and Emancipation of Slaves within United States 1865 law. 

Join the fun for a day full of festivities that include notable African American Authors speaking, Panel Discussion, Performing Artists in partnership with Department of Cultural Affairs of LA County and African Marketplace, Foodie Area and Kids Creative Zone Workshops.

From the creators of Tarfest, LAUNCH LA presents roller skating performances by former cast members of LA’s DiscOasis at the first annual Juneteenth Celebration organized by Greenway Arts Alliance and Mid City West Neighborhood Council. Starting at 11am on Sunday, June 19th, Melrose Trading Post will feature a variety of musical performances, as well as live poetry, special vendors, exclusive merchandise and more! Proceeds from the weekly market go on to funding the arts program at Fairfax High School. Another great event on June 19, 2022: The Hollywood Bowl presents a spectacular show in honor of the holiday.
