Artist and gallery owner, Steven Janssen is welcoming the return of The Mod Squad at his new gallery location on East Tahquitz Canyon Way. 
The group of painters originally exhibited at Janssen’s gallery back in 2006 when the gallery, JANSSEN ARTSPACE existed on Indian Canyon and when Modernism was just a week event. Now, with a better and brighter location, Janssen has added a few more painters to the group. Artists include Martin Baran, Mark Brosmer, Deanna Fainelli, Steven Janssen, Bruce Kimerer and Linda Stelling.
“Some of these painters are local Palm Springs residents, one from San Francisco, and a few from Los Angeles,” says Janssen. The one element that these painters all have in common is that they are not afraid of color. Linda Stelling’s oil paintings have a bright vintage feel, as if they were painted back in the 1950’s or 60’s. Mark Brosmer’s super realism captures every detail of an everyday item such as a shag rug. Martin Baran’s representation of the pool toy is oversized, vivid, and dramatic. The body of work that these artists produced for this particular exhibition are all condusive to the Palm Springs lifestyle which includes mid-century modern architecture, swanky cocktail parties, and ultra cool desert living.

Artist Linda Stelling said, she believes that tapping into one’s unconscious through various techniques and dream analysis is key to understanding one’s true self. She explains, “Like dream analysts who use language to interpret the symbolism of the dream, I find myself as an artist using color, imagery, and modernist abstraction as the projected expression of connecting the inner world to the other world as ‘art.’ The interior world of humanity seems to me not to be so much about concertized language but more primitive elements with dynamic shapeless form, striving to find shape in the external world.”
