On May 14th, 2026, head to Gagosian for a posthumous exhibition of Frank Gehry. While this is the artist’s first exhibition Beverly Hills gallery since his death, it’s technically his second exhibition at Gagosian Los Angeles. You may remember his most recent solo exhibition, titled Spinning Tales which opened back in 2021.

The exhibition highlights Gehry’s sculptural practice, focusing on animal imagery and material experimentation. Moreover, the artist’s family collaborated closely on the project, while Gehry’s studio shaped the exhibition design. Key works include Bear with Us (2014), a life-size stainless steel sculpture; Untitled (Black Crocodile New York) (2023), made with Formica and silicone; and Fish on Fire (2023), his final copper fish sculpture. Together, these works emphasize movement, texture, and playful form.
Additionally, A Pair of Snake Lamps (1989) demonstrates Gehry’s use of painted papier-mâché and functional design. These illuminated sculptures merge craft and utility, reinforcing his multidisciplinary approach. Meanwhile, a selection of fish sculptures connects directly to recurring forms in his architectural projects. For instance, the curves seen in Walt Disney Concert Hall echo the fluidity of these creatures.

The exhibition also includes ten works on paper, where Gehry captures motion through energetic lines and layered color. Furthermore, the presentation debuts a video from Gagosian Premieres. This film documents performances by Esperanza Spalding and Gustavo Dudamel, alongside Youth Orchestra Los Angeles. It also features a conversation between Gehry and Julian Rose. Finally, the exhibition sets the stage for O Século de Gehry at Fundação de Serralves, opening June 2026.
