Lots going on downtown tonight….
Karma Underground’s kick off charity event takes place tonight at Art Share LA, (downtown) from 7:00 pm till 10:00 pm.
A Tibetan charity, KarmaBlast will be the first recipient to be awarded funds from Karma Underground as part of the upcoming benefit. KarmaBlast is an online network created by Bodhicitta Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to helping those who are less fortunate.
The event will feature live painting by Samir Arghandwall of 7th Letter and DJ sets by J. ROCC TICK (Latch Brothers/Routines/Dragons), Kiino Villand and special guests.
There will also be live screen painting by Hit and Run. A limited edition print by Malleus will be for sale to benefit the cause.
SophiaSophia Gasparian (see image, right) is one of the participating aritsts, who will be donating work for auction. Artists such as Fairey Shepard, Risk, Henry Rollins and more have also agreed to donate work for the cause.
Born in Yerevan, Armenia, Gasparian embraces strong political subjects within her art. If you are not familiar with the work of Sophia Gasparian, one can only say her paintings bring to mind a childlike innocence overshadowed by a darker reality. Through her art, she recounts her grandmother’s story of survival during the Armenian Genocide in 1915.
See image left, entitled “Global Warming” by Sophia Gasparian.
Gasparian is excited to be part of the very first benefit produced by Karma Underground. Founded by Lydiaemily Archibald, Karma Underground was recently created in April of 2012 with the intent to help those in need solely through the use of art. The organization’s slogan is “Art can do more than just hang, It can help.”
There is a suggested donation of $10.00 at the door.
