7.20 AngeliqueGlennonFLYERNEW ART, NEW WOR(L)D features art and original designs by Angélique Glennon and will open Friday June 20th at the Electric Lodge in Venice. The opening night will feature a wide array of diverse art, from her original EcCeptical®, sculpture in the shape of jewelry, to paintings as well as assemblages.

Angélique creates sculptures in the shape of jewelry. The name of this wearable and frameable artwork is EcCeptical® (pronounced ek-sep-tee-call). EcCeptical® divides into 2 main branches: The Wearables Collection™ (the ones that can be lightly worn) and The Frameables Collection™(the ones that are framed).

The opening reception will take place from 7:30 p.m. until 10:30 p.m. at the Electric Lodge (1416 Electric Ave.) in Venice. and will feature some EcCeptical®, assemblages, paintings and more. The artist will speak at 8:30 p.m. Videos wil be projected featuring EcCeptical® videos and singer Angela Eren, will perform three songs.

Collectible Bottles and and EcCeptical® will be available for purchase only on July 20th, opening day.

The paintings will remain on display through Sunday, August 26th.

Kayne Griffin Corcoran presents an exhibition of new work by Liza Ryan consisting of large-scale color photographs and a multi-image installation.

In this series, Ryan explores the interconnectivity of seemingly disparate elements. The centerpiece of the exhibition is Rare Bloom, a sculptural installation of 180 photographs mounted to panels of varying thickness.

7.20 HammerScreeningA new film by directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris (Little Miss Sunshine) will be screened tonight. Filmed in part at the Hammer, “Ruby Sparks”  stars Paul Dano as Calvin, a young novelist who achieved phenomenal success early in his career but is now struggling with both his writing and romantic life. He makes a breakthrough when he creates a character named Ruby who serves as his muse, but thingso get weird when Calvin finds Ruby (Zoe Kazan), in the flesh, sitting on his couch.

A Q&A with Paul Dano, Jonathan Dayton, Valerie Faris, and Zoe Kazan will follow the screening. (2012, Dirs. V. Faris and J. Dayton).
