La Luz de Jesus presents “Rhythm and Shoes,” featuring the work of Hudson Marquez

Marquez was a partner in Fri-Jan9-2015-HudsonMarquezthe rabble rousing art collective Ant Farm, he created Cadillac Ranch, and co-founded TVTV. His work has been shown at the Whitney, MOMA, and various other cathedrals of “high art,” so, one is encouraged to look at his work through a complex prism.

Rhythm and Shoes, opening January 9th at La Luz de Jesus, proves to be quintessential Hudson: blues iconography–complete with hell hounds, poison meals, and murderous deeds in back alleys, and, of course, shoes.

Also on view in Gallery II is the work of Charles Binger (d. 1973). This celebrated illustrator whose paintings became the classic posters of films starring Burt Lancaster, Charlton Heston and Marilyn Monroe, and more.
