is Thursday, April 24th, one of the restaurant’s most popular events once again takes place. The liquor/Food pairings have become a much anticipated dining experience.
As with many of Upper West’s pairing events, a brand ambassador is present at the events to answer questions. Brand Ambassador, Scott Fitzgerald from Mount Gay Rum, will be on hand to offer his expertise.
Chef Nick Shipp has put together a delicious menu sure to get you in the Caribbean spirit and of course the Mount Gay rum will only add to the flavor and the fun of the evening.
Start the party off with Mount Gay Silver and a local halibut ceviche, complete with a plantain shell, ataulfo mango and tajin spiced watermelon. Keep the festivities alive with a zesty potato lentil soup featuring yellow curry dumplings with toasted chili and chadon beni, accompanied with Mount Gay Eclipse.
One cannot enjoy a Caribbean feast without the presence of a Jerk dish…Chef Nick honors this tradition with a twist….charred Jerk spiced duck accompanied with a black bean custard, a coconut reduction with cilantro and piquillo. This dish will be served with Mount Gay Black Barrel.
Mount Gay Extra Old will be featured next along with a ropa vieja to keep the party spicy with peas, rice, crispy ham, a fried egg and a thai-basil tomato broth. Finally the party winds down with a warm ginger cake, cinnamon ice cream and passion fruit puree paired perfectly with Mount Gay 1703.
If you are a fan of rum, this is the pairing for you. I can personally attest to the fact that Upper West offers incredible cuisine. So be sure to make your reservation quickly as these events always sell out.
