Jersey Poets, a group exhibition honoring Bruce Springsteen and Patti Smith opened on November 14, 2025 at Musichead Gallery. Bruce Springsteen & Patti Smith
The show highlights two groundbreaking New Jersey artists who reshaped the bond between sound, language, and visual identity. Moreover, it features photographs by Adrian Boot, Allan Tannenbaum, Bob Gruen, Danny Clinch, David Gahr, David Rose, Frank Stefanko, Lynn Goldsmith, Neil Zlozower, Norman Seeff, Steve Rapport, and Terry O’Neill.
These portraits and performance images examine how both artists turned rock and roll into storytelling and spiritual inquiry. Springsteen channels working-class resilience, while Smith expresses the intellectual and emotional edge of punk. Additionally, the exhibition presents photographs that follow their separate yet connected paths. Each image captures performance, collaboration, or persona, thus revealing their blend of realism and symbolism.
Their shared roots link them, however their creative visions diverge in meaningful ways. Springsteen’s narratives echo small-town rhythms. Smith’s avant-garde voice challenges artistic boundaries. Consequently, the photographs illuminate individuality and community while also emphasizing the interplay between sound and image.
The exhibition aligns with the release of Springsteen’s biopic Deliver Us From Nowhere. It also coincides with the publication of Smith’s memoir Bread of Angels and her appearance at Walt Disney Concert Hall. Furthermore, both artists celebrate the 50th anniversaries of their debut albums, Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J. and Horses.
