Before we get on with the week, I recently had the chance to see a brilliant exhibit curated by political artist Sophia Gasparian at Avenue 50 Studio in Highland Park.

t door, David Kordansky Gallery presents Cornfabulation, a collaborative exhibition by Aaron Curry and Richard Hawkins.
Though both artists are originally from Texas, and Curry was Hawkins’ student at Art Center College of Design in the early 2000s, the exhibition goes far beyond notions of camaraderie or shared influence.

There are ton’s of Halloween events….. but before we get to my pick of the week which is a Halloween art event at G2 which starts in the evening, there are a couple of daytime events happening.
Now some may have headed off to Johsua Tree for the second weekend for the Hwy62 Art Tours.
Stop into Joshua Tree Art Gallery(JTAG), who will be having am artist reception for Tour De Force and to celebrate HWY 62 Art Tours in conjunction with the Morongo Basin Cultral Arts Council.

LACMA offers a Free Storytelling Performance: Pumpkin Bones, Picnic Stones, and Hallow’s Eve Tales….Design and create props, costumes, and instruments for a participatory storytelling performance where everyone has a role!
You and your family will help the storytelling team of Karen Golden and Rebecca Martin tell stories about bones, dogs, pumpkins and other Tim Burton-inspired themes, using your hand-made props, instruments, and your imagination.

For all you art lovers, though, the Costume Ball at LACMA is sold out (at $100 a ticket), this is the last weekend of Tim Burton’s exhibition….you have got to see it.

Canal Club always puts on a fun Halloween bash and yes there is no cover, though you do need to buy drinks…hey it’s a restaurant, what do you want?
I have been to this event many times and always had a great time. I have fond memories of owner Daniel Samakow, getting wild in a Toga!!

Tonight’s event boasts of two floors of maze-like atmosphere with hundreds of celebrity wax figures and you don’t have to fight them to the bar…Yeah!
Here’s another art Halloween party…. Beacon Arts celebrates their one year anniversary with a costumed dance party, featuring art and music.

Though there is no actual reception, they always welcome visitors. Great show.
Be sure to stop into LACMA and see the Tim Burton exhibition which will be open late, it’s your last chance for a final viewing before it expires forever.
Tonight, October 30th, the exhibition will remain open all night, and on Monday, October 31st, it will be open until midnight.
Tickets will be half-price from 12 am to 9 am on Monday morning.
