Oct23-2015 Offramp-Patssi-Valdez-What is she writing hi-resOfframp Gallery offers a pair of solo exhibitions by Patssi Valdez: “Light & Shadow” and “Vintage Prints From Her 1998 Spring Collection.”

See image: Patssi Valdez, What is She Writing?, 2015, Acrylic on Canvas, 36X28

Patssi Valdez: Light & Shadow is the artists fourth exhibition with the gallery and features seven new acrylic paintings by Valdez in her classic style. Magical interiors entice with vivid colors, steaming pots of tea, diaphanous sheers, plush pillows and valentines; while swirling carpets, teetering busts of queens and kings, dancing umbrellas, spilled goblets of blood-red wine, flying forks and vertiginous perspective belie any sense of business-as-usual in Valdez’s emotionally charged rooms.

The rarely seen monoprints that comprise Patssi Valdez: Vintage Prints From her 1998 Spring Collection stand in stark contrast to the paintings in Light & Shadow. Sleeping women rendered in bold gestural strokes dream beneath pastel skies and clouds, reveal a softer, if no less emotional, side of Valdez’s work. Patssi is best known for her paintings, paper fashions and performance work with the avant-garde art group ASCO (nausea), of which she was a founding member.
