LSH CoLab Artists curating Artists series hosts a closing reception for “Beryl Odette: Discarded Comfort,” curated by Beth Ann Whittaker and Senon Williams.
Beryl Odette is an artist born and based in Los Angeles, descended from survivors of slavery and The Holocaust. Her work ranges from classically formal oil on canvas to site-specific installations and video work. She explores multiple mediums and celebrates unusual materials. Her work is luringly aesthetic, mesmerizing the viewers’ attention with its apparent beauty. While drawing the viewer in, the more disturbing it feels. A sublime dimension of discarded comfort rules. An intangible presence of discomfort within the soothing beauty of the work takes over our mental space.
