As the 2024 summer season nears its end at the Hollywood Bowl, jazz lovers are in for one final treat. “Jazz on Tap at the Bowl” is a star-studded celebration of music and dance. Featuring an impressive lineup of talent, the event is a great way for jazz and music enthusiasts to gather under the stars and enjoy the best of the best. The list of performers includes some familiar artists as well as an array of highly respected guest singers and dancers. While the performers are not well-known to the average Angeleno, they are revered within the Jazz world. A quick review of the artists’ individual biographies shows an endless array of awards and accolades.

Christian McBride and Thomas Wilkins preside over the ensemble of master musicians. Wilkins conducts the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra with McBride as the evening’s musical director, co-host and bassist. Terence Blanchard, returns to the Bowl with his masterful trumpet chops. He recently performed with Herbie Hancock at the Bowl. His cutting-edge solos are intense, innovative and extremely powerful. The long list of special guests includes tap dancer Savion Glover, dancer/singer Karen Calloway Williams, vocalists Ben Vereen, Paula Cole, Judith Hill, Freda Payne and others. There will be additional award winning singers and dancers contributing to the evening’s entertainment.

For those who appreciate jazz, but may not yet have seen Christian McBride, the show will certainly be a treat. McBride is an acclaimed jazz bassist known for his leadership, versatility and technical mastery. As a bandleader, he leads several ensembles, including his own big band. He is committed to jazz education, serving as the artistic director of the Newport Jazz Festival. Ask any jazz musician about McBride, and they will say the same thing. He’s a living legend.
