David Zwirner presents Portia Zvavahera: Zvibereko zvemweya wangu. This is the gallery’s third solo exhibition with the Zimbabwean artist Portia Zvavahera (b. 1985). It features new paintings that merge the artist’s dream imagery with daily experiences and spiritual practices. Zvavahera deepens her visual language through recurring symbols and stories. Her canvases teem with mystical creatures that channel her spiritual reflections and explore human existence. This marks Zvavahera’s first solo exhibition in Los Angeles since 2017.

In 2024, Kettle’s Yard at the University of Cambridge, England, debuted Zvakazarurwa, a solo exhibition of Zvavahera’s work. Organized with Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh, the show traveled there in 2025. Curated by Tamar Garb, it represented her first institutional solo exhibition in the United Kingdom. Meanwhile, in 2024–2025, Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris presented Imba yerumbidzo (House of Praise) as the fifteenth installment of its Open Space series.
Furthermore, in August 2025, the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston, opened Hidden Battles / Hondo dzakavanzika, Zvavahera’s first solo show in the United States, on view through January 2026. Finally, on September 27, 2025, the artist debuted another solo exhibition at Fridericianum in Kassel.
Through these presentations, Zvavahera continues to expand her artistic vision while connecting inner and outer worlds. Each exhibition affirms her evolving dialogue between the physical and the spiritual. As a result, her work reveals how dreams, ritual, and faith intertwine within contemporary art.

The gallery was founded in 1993. A small gallery in Soho (NYC) started making big waves. Soon it moved to Chelsea in NY. Next David Zwirner London was opened as well as additional locations on the Upper East Side of New York, Hong Kong, and then the Chelsea gallery had a major expansion.
