Thursday, Friday, April 9-10, 2026 Art Parties & Events lead us onto a new journey this weekend. With a pop-up exhibition, film screenings, and of course art openings plus theatre on Thursday, and Friday. Wow there are certainly lots of choices for the coming weekend . David Zwirner unvels an exhibition of paintings and works on paper by Josef Albers (1888–1976). The solo show is a collaboration with the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation. Century City
A pop-up group show titled Evolving Matter opens in the Pavillion. The exhibition is presented by Matter Studio Gallery, but will NOT be held at its current gallery, Instead it will be held at the former space of the Annenberg Space for Photography – the Pavillion. LC/el.cizzle will be spinning the vinyl. Artists include: Joan Scheibel, Jora Nelstein, Deena Capparelli, Bibi Davidson, Hung Viet Nguyen, Liberty Worth, and Karla Funderburk. Sprüth Magers Los Angeles screens Nancy Holt’s influential 1978 film Sun Tunnels, in addition to the 1971 film Swamp, co-authored by Robert Smithson. Following the screening, Lisa Le Feuvre, Executive Director of the Holt/Smithson Foundation, will offer reflections on Holt’s enduring relevance as a filmmaker.

Presented in partnership with the MAK Center for Art and Architecture, Holt/Smithson Foundation, and Sprüth Magers, this screening is part of a series of public programs accompanying the exhibition Nancy Holt: Light and Shadow Poetics at the MAK Center. The Unexpected Guest recently opened at Theatre Forty. Written by Agatha Christie, and directed by Warren Davis, it is a classic “whodunit?” The wealthy Richard Warwick has been murdered, needless to say, there is no shortage of suspects. Inspector Thomas is on the case – find out how the story ends.

At the Electric Lodge, take in The Best Boarding House in Delaware written and directed by Marja-Lewis Ryan. The play is inspired by the chilling true crimes of Dorothea Puette. Furthermore, it tells the horrid story of Puette running a social security scam out of her boarding house for seniors. Santa Monica…Head to Bergamot Station for the official kickoff of Santa Monica’s Arts, Culture & Creativity Month. The event celebrates the opening of the new Santa Monica City Gallery at the arts center. Additionally, it will also pay tribute to Senator Ben Allen and his support of the arts. Additionally attendees can enjoy an opening art party for the inaugural exhibition at the Santa Monica City Gallery. The group show is titled Case Study: Adapt Design Release. Featuring architectural models created by USC students in collaboration with ten architecture firms. The work takes place in response to the rebuilding needs of families impacted by the Pacific Palisades as well as Altadena wildfires. It is on loan from USC Architecture.
