More Art Parties
Willam Turner Gallery presents two exhibitions. Eric Johnson: Madame X and also Shingo Francis: Liminal Presence. Both open on November 18, 2023, and run through January 6, 2024.
The Madame X is a new series of lustrous cast resin sculptures. It exemplifies Eric Johnson’s passionate embrace of the sensuality of form. The sculptures are imbued with abstract bursts of color beneath pristine surfaces. These appear to undulate as one moves around their double-helix curves.
Utilizing interference paint, a medium with mercurial properties, Shingo Francis dials into the phenomenology of perception to produce works that resonate with subtle shifts of color to extraordinary effect. Their nuance invites a quiet curiosity, provoking a sense of wonder as one moves Zen-like into an exploration of engaged contemplation on the cyclical nature of time and liminal space. On view: January 6, 2024; Art Party: 5:00pm – 8:00pm; Gallery E7; https://www.williamturnergallery.com
Lois Lambert Gallery also throws an opening art party for two exhibitions. In the main gallery, Hung Viet Nguyen’s Pilgrimage will be on view as well as Rachel Daly’s Embroidering with Paint: The Contemporary Textile. The latter exhibition is on exhibit in the upstairs gallery.
Pilgrimage by Hung Viet Nguyen features a selection of highly textured and fantastical landscapes. Nguyen draws inspiration from his travels through many different countries as well as regions. He paints landscapes from his imagination, rather than specific places.
Then upstairs, Rachel Daly breaks the traditional rules of oil painting. She meticulously layers “beads” of paint to create an illusion of textiles and embroidery. On view: January 6, 2024; Art Party: 6:00pm – 9:00pm; Gallery E3; http://www.loislambertgallery.com
