There5.17 Den LindaKing DavidFrench are several openings at the Pacific Design Center tonight….den contemporary presents artists, Linda King and David French. Linda King’s work offers fluid movements of paint with hardedge shapes and flat intense backgrounds, which shifts the viewer’s eye as shape becomes negative and space becomes shape. While the art of David French engages in abstraction with curiously shaped sculptures which appear to reference the past focusing on a darker aspect of contemporary society.

lowres FigtreesCafe at NightBe sure to pop in Figtree’s Cafe tonight for a mellow art crawl event. Located at 429 Ocean Front Walk, Figtree’s will offer some happy hour specials for sale along with some free wine

Tonight, Figtree’s Cafe will be showing the work of Michael Tempo (Temple). Mike is probably best known as the founder and percussionist of The Bonedaddys. However, art has always been part of his life. He talks about his process, “I approach painting in a non-objective way. The viewer, however, is often able to construct their own narrative; seeing abstracted objects, messages and events that are unintended by me.”

Tempo strives to create paintings that are perception-sharpening tools, and as such exist as a sort of ‘gameboard’ that welcomes the viewer to participate in an act of re-creation.

VAC Figtrees MikeTempoHe adds, “My imagery is often constructed with strokes which I refer to as ‘Lowerglyphics.’ Lowerglyphics are a written expression that speaks to the subconscious because they stop short of describing common, recognized symbols. They encourage the mind to fill-in-the-blanks. Lowerglyphics are the units I use to construct the non-objective/abstract cosmology that informs my work.”
