Billis Williams Gallery debuts two new exhibitions Proof of Life (Part 5) by Francis DiFronzo, and Leslie Lewis Sigler: Blood Vessels. The gallery hosted an opening reception on Saturday, June 10, 2023. Both shows will run through July 8, 2023.
Proof of Life (Part 5), Francis DiFronzo
Proof of Life (Part 5) is the gallery’s fourth solo exhibition of paintings by Southern California painter Francis DiFronzo. The exhibition is the 5th installment in DiFronzo’s serial exhibition contemplating what the future of humanity looks like.
DiFronzo’s ethereal paintings depict imagined landscapes from a world of his own creation. His hauntingly beautiful paintings alternate between reality and the surreal as they present desolate and mysterious places reminiscent of the iconic American West. The paintings are highly detailed and wander from familiar and mundane to the surreal. Fundamentally a storyteller, DiFronzo transports the viewer into a world of his own creation and invites them to live there. As they move from painting to painting in the series, the viewer vicariously experiences the depth and breadth of this world and the stories that DiFronzo has imagined.
Leslie Lewis Sigler: Blood Vessels,
Leslie Lewis Sigler: Blood Vessels is a series of nine still life paintings in oil. This is the artist’s first solo exhibition with the gallery. The paintings feature silver and copper flatware, vessels, molds, and cutlery. The utilization of these materials capture the enduring beauty and profound depth of these domestic objects. Thus reflecting individual and collective histories. These objects tell stories of the legacy of personal and familial ties. The seed for her work was planted when Sigler’s grandmother began gifting her one piece at a time from the family silverware collection.

In Sigler’s paintings, objects, histories, and emotional relations are brought vividly and suggestively to life. Therefore each piece has its own unique story to tell, moments of polish and moments of tarnish. These domestic objects made of precious metal have a kind of eternal life. As we all know, they may age beyond recognition, but polishing them will soon turn them to their original glory. As a result, capturing the elegance of their form and the precision of their decorative flourishes is to spotlight a moment in time.
