An opening art party was held on January 28, 2023, at Corey Helford Gallery (CHG) to celebrate new exhibitions – the ninth annual Art Collector Starter Kit group show (ACSK IX), and “While We Wait,” by Toronto-based artist Richard Ahnert. Not to worry if you missed the art party, you can still view the exhibitions through March 4, 2023.

In the Main Gallery “ACSK IX” features affordable, new 12” x 12” works from over 75 established and emerging artists from across the globe. This is a rare opportunity for newer collectors and enthusiasts with limited space or budgets to purchase an original piece of art from their favorite CHG artist. Smaller, more affordable new works by the artists that everyone loves was the inciting idea behind CHG’s popular annual group show when it launched in 2013.

Artists include: HUSH, Hikari Shimoda, Brandi Milne, Eric Joyner, Miho Hirano, Troy Brooks, Bennett Slater, Luke Chueh, Travis Lampe, and many many more.

In “While We Wait,” Ahnert invites us to observe wild and domestic animals in urban settings, interacting with common objects they would be unlikely to encounter in their natural environment. Ahnert takes anthropomorphic painting to a new level, lacing it with a quiet, yet unmistakable animism – an abiding kinship between human and animal. He uses the relationship between animals and humans to explore themes of emotion, metaphor, and narrative with a satirical twist. Storytelling, understated humor, and deep reflection are at the heart of his practice.
